FBM KLCI Up 0.5%; Market shares End Mixed
Despite the broader market generally closing lower Wednesday, the benchmark index ended higher following the upbeat performance of Wall Street overnight.
The FBM KLCI rose 6.27 points or 0.48% to 1,306.62 points. It opened 0.91 of a point higher at 1,301.26 points, slightly above the day's lowest level of 1,301.21 points and moved to a high of 1,307.94 points during the day, representing a trading band of 6.73 points.

Of the 30 components of KLCI, 18 closed in the positive territory, 10 ended lower while the remaining two were unchanged. Volume for the 30 component stock was 141 million shares worth RM804 million.

The Finance Index surged 47.819 points to 11,451.27, the Industrial Index rose 12.38 points to 2,716.42 but the Plantation Index declined 5.75 points to 6,468.37.
The FBM Emas Index increased 34.03 points to 8,815.88, the FBM Top 100 Index surged 41.21 points to 8,562.56, the FBM70 Index advanced 42.029 points to 8,651.76.
Consumer products accounted for 70.149 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 311.929 million, construction 60.136 million, trade and services 374.87 million, technology 47.26 million, infrastructure 14.482 million, finance 118.08 million, hotels 874,100, properties 118.592 million, plantations 22.747 million, mining nil, REITs 2.451 million and closed/fund 59,800.
Actively traded stocks include KYM, MUIIND, AXIATA, KNM, HEXAGON-WA, LIONCOR, CWORKS, RCECAP, TALAM, and L&G.

Market breadth was however negative with losers leading gainers 467 to 333. Volume rose to 1,339 million shares worth RM1,806 million from 1,269 million shares valued at RM1,446 million Tuesday.
Sentiment was boosted by good corporate earnings announced by Public Bank, dealers said.
Mild profit taking in selected plantation and oil and gas related counters capped earlier gains.

Top Gainers were AXIATA (+21 sen to RM3.43), GENTING MALAYSIA (+5 sen to RM2.93), CIMB (+4 sen to RM13.42), PBBANK (+4 sen to RM12.08) and SIME (+3 sen to RM8.93).
Top Losers were GENTING (-8 sen to RM7.49), YTL (-10 sen to RM7.40), TANJONG (-22 sen to RM17.60), TENAGA (-1 sen to RM8.16) and NESTLE (-40 sen to RM33.90).
Market breadth was negative with 467 losers as compared to 333 gainers.

The FBM Ace Index plunged 92.42 points to 4,621.14 with volume declining to 115.315 million, worth RM24.015 million, from 184.959 million units, valued at RM38.357, yesterday.
