Of the 30 components of KLCI, 14 closed in the positive territory, 11 ended lower while the remaining five were unchanged.

Volume for the component stock was 103 million shares worth RM631 million. Malaysian shares closed generally lower Thursday but its benchmark index settled slightly higher albeit on lower volume.

The FBM KLCI added 1.74 points or 0.13% to 1,308.36 points, slightly below the day's highest level of 1,308.52 points. It opened 3.03 points lower at 1,303.59 points and moved to a low of 1,302.82 points during the day. Trading band was only 5.70 points.

Market breadth was however negative with losers outnumbering gainers 573 to 203 on a lower volume of 1,065 million shares worth RM1,378 million against 1,339 million shares valued at RM1,806 million Wednesday.

Actively traded stocks include TALAM, TOPGLOV-CA, AXIATA, BASWELL, CWORKS, BINTAI, L&G, KNM, IRCB and PROTON-CC.
The Finance Index gained 0.26% to 11481.14 points. However, Plantation Index decreased 0.08% to 6463.51 points while the Properties Index fell 1.13% to 814.53 points

Leading movers were MAYBANK (+9 sen to RM6.98), CIMB (+8 sen to RM13.50), AXIATA (+4 sen to RM3.47), TENAGA (+2 sen to RM8.18) and AMMB (+2 sen to RM5.26).

Lagging movers were PUBLIC BANK (-8 sen to RM12.00), GENTING (-9 sen to RM7.40), BJTOTO (-6 sen to RM4.31), GENTING MALAYSIA (-2 sen to RM2.91) and PETRONAS GAS (-7 sen to RM9.80).
