Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended easier Monday, but off its lows, as heavyweights trimmed earlier losses.
The benchmark FBM KLCI was - 0.59 of a point lower at 1,297.99 after opening 12.33 points easier at 1,286.25.
Of the 30 components of KLCI, seven closed in the positive territory, 19 ended lower while the remaining three were unchanged with 1 untraded. Volume for the component stock was 97 million shares worth RM532 million.
Of heavyweights, Sime Darby shed one sen to RM8.97, Maybank slipped three sen to RM6.88, CIMB gave up six sen to RM13.38 while both Maxis and Tenaga Nasional slipped one sen each to RM5.36 and RM8.16, respectively.
Regional stock market sentiment was dampened by the decline in US stocks last Friday on renewed concerns over bank profits after JPMorgan Chase & Co reported a sharp fourth-quarter loan losses.
The Finance Index rose 15.43 points to 11,345.48, the Industrial Index shed 3.18 points to 2,713.55 and the Plantation Index declined 39.27 points to 6,475.77.
The FBM Emas Index slid 0.31 of a point to 8,771.87, the FBM Top 100 Index declined 5.56 points to 8,507.19, the FBM70 Index fell 12.43 points to 8,600.43 but the FBM Ace Index surged 142.23 points to 4,731.17.
Advancers and decliners almost matched 396 to 361 while 252 counters remained unchanged and 298 others were untraded.
Volume declined to 1.247 billion shares, valued at RM1.426 billion, compared with 1.677 billion shares, worth RM1.919 billion, registered last Friday.
The ACE Market volume rose to 208.17 million units, valued at RM57.583 million, from 158.121 million units, worth RM29.701 million, recorded previously. The FBMACE outperform all the other indices across the board.
Among active stocks, Integrated Rubber added 24 sen to RM1.61, Dataprep rose 7.5 sen to 47.5 sen, Pentamaster gained 6.5 sen to 60 sen, Eti Tech inched up two sen to 42 sen and Mtouche increased four sen to 43 sen.
