Malaysian Shares Closed Higher On Lightened Volume
It was a lackluster trading Friday with share prices on Bursa Malaysia settling marginally higher on lower volume. The market is closed next Monday and Tuesday for the Chinese New Year festival.The FBM KLCI added 3.97 points or 0.32% to 1,253.39 points, slightly below the day’s highest level of 1,254.77 points. It opened 0.87 of a point higher at the day’s lowest level of 1,250.29 points. Trading band was only 4.48 points.
Market breadth was positive with gainers outnumbering losers 479 to 144. Volume however shrank to 561 million shares valued at RM811 million from 646 million shares worth RM882 million Thursday.
For the week, the index gained 5.49 points or 0.44% from the previous Friday’s closing of 1,247.90 points.
The Finance Index added 0.57% to 10946.04 points, the Properties Index gained 0.45% to 769.05 points and the Plantation Index increased 0.28% to 6204.50 points.
Actively traded stocks include MAS-OR, TALAM, FRONTKN-OR, KNM, BJCORP-LC, LCL, IRCB, FASTRAK, AXIATA and ETITECH. Trading volume declined to 560.64 mil shares worth RM811.45 mil as compared to Thursday's 646.35 mil shares worth RM881.91 mil.
Leading Movers were MAYBANK (+7 sen to RM6.90), CIMB (+6 sen to RM 12.42), PPB (+20 sen to RM16.00), SIME DARBY (+2 sen to RM8.40) and TELEKOM (+3 sen to RM3.20). Lagging Movers were AXIATA (-1 sen to RM3.41), YTL (-4 sen to RM7.36) and MAXIS (-1 sen to RM5.39). Market breadth was positive with 479 gainers as compared to 144 losers.
