ZLBT's Pre-Market Morning Round-up

Little Change Expected For Malaysian Shares
The Malaysian stock market has finished higher now in six straight sessions, collecting nearly 20 points or 1.3 percent in the process. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index finished just below the 1,510-point plateau, and now investors are expected a steady open when the market kicks off trade on Tuesday.

The global forecast for the Asian markets predicts little change ahead of two key events this week in the United States: Tuesday's mid-term elections and Wednesday's announcement from the FOMC on expected further stimulus. Oil stocks are expected to provide support, as are properties and steel companies - while financials and airlines are predicted to be weak. The European markets finished higher on Monday and the U.S. bourses were mixed but little changed - and the Asian markets are also expected to see a mixed open.

The KLCI finished slightly higher on Monday, thanks to mild upside from the financials, properties and plantations. For the day, the index added 4.0 points or 0.2 percent to finish at 1,509.66 after trading between 1,511.24 and 1,506.31. Volume was 1.27 billion shares worth 1.51 billion ringgit. There were 440 decliners and 344 gainers, with 316 stocks finishing unchanged.

Among the gainers, CIMB, Genting, Sime Darby, IOI Corp, DiGi.com, Hong Leong Bank and Public Bank all finished higher.Wall Street offers little guidance as stocks saw a mixed close on Monday even as both U.S. and Chinese manufacturing activity unexpectedly picked up in October. The lack of direction came amid trader caution ahead of the upcoming elections, the Federal Reserve's anticipated quantitative easing measures and the forthcoming October jobs report, all scheduled to hit later this week.

Wall Street Updates
On the economic front, the Institute for Supply Management said its index of activity in the manufacturing sector rose to 56.9 in October from 54.4 in September, with a reading above 50 indicating growth in the sector. Economists had expected a slide to a reading of 54.0. Among the other economic reports, the Commerce Department said that construction spending increased by 0.5 percent in September, while economists had been expecting a 0.7 percent decrease.

A separate report from the Commerce Department showed that personal income edged down by 0.1 percent in September, while forecasts called for a 0.2 percent increase. On the other hand, personal spending increased by 0.2 percent, short of projections for a 0.4 percent increase. Two key reports showing an unexpected pickup in Chinese manufacturing activity in October helped stocks to a solid start this morning.

The major averages ended the session on opposite sides of the unchanged line, with the NASDAQ posting a modest loss. While the NASDAQ edged down 2.57 points or 0.1 percent to 2,504.84, the Dow inched up 6.13 points or 0.1 percent to 11,124.62 and the S&P 500 rose 1.12 points or 0.1 percent to 1,184.38.

Tombstone Doji : Neutral Reversal Pattern
The appearance of a Tombatone Doji indicates that buyers dominated the trading and they were able to drive the prices higher during the said period. However, sellers resurfaced by the end of the period and pushed prices back to the opening price level and to the particular period's low. As it's name denotes, a Tombstone Doji carries a negative tone.

FBM KLCI 01 Nov 2010
As indicated by A, the KLCI had its daily high reaching 1511.24 points, closing the day at 1509.66 points, upped 4 points. Immediate support for the KLCI is at 1500 while the next resistance is at 1525.

As shown on the chart above, the Bollinger Bands expanded 24%, with the KLCI above the Bollinger Middle Band, thus the Bollinger Bands is suggesting a bullish signal.

As indicated by B, total market volume fell 13.1%, with volume still above the 40-day volume moving average. Therefore, this suggests that the overall market is still well-participated, as the market sentiment as a whole is still on the positive side.

As indicated by C, the Stochastic retreated slightly, but still above 70%, in the short term bullish region. This suggests that the market movement for the short term is still bullish bias.

In conclusion, the immediate technical outlook for the KLCI remains bullish bias, as the Bollinger Bands re-expands with the KLCI above the Bollinger Middle Band.

For the time being, technical readings of the KLCI are showing positive signals. If the Stochastic should break below 70%, it would be a signal suggesting a beginning of a technical correction for the KLCI.

Quiet Trade Expected For Malaysian Market
The Malaysian stock market has finished higher now in five straight sessions, collecting more than 15 points or 1 percent along the way. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index finished just above the 1,505-point plateau, and now investors are expected to remain largely on the sidelines when the market opens on Monday.

The global forecast for the Asian markets calls for little activity ahead of two key events this week in the United States: Tuesday's mid-term elections and Wednesday's announcement from the FOMC on expected further stimulus. Gold stocks are expected to rise as a safe haven, while property and steel also may provide support. The European and U.S. markets ended mixed but little changed, and the Asian markets are expected to follow the same path.

The KLCI finished modestly higher on Friday, pushed into the green by gains from the financial shares and properties - although profit taking from the plantation sector curbed the overall upside.

For the day, the index added 6.22 points or 0.41 percent to finish at the daily high of 1505.66 after dipping as low as 1,497.72. Volume was 1462.58 million shares worth 2342.71 million ringgit. There were 436 gainers and 380 decliners.Among the actives, CIMB, Axiata, Genting and MISC all finished higher, while Public Bank, IOI Corporation, Sime Darby and MAS all ended lower.

The lead from Wall Street offers little clarity as stocks turned in a lackluster performance on Friday, with subdued trading activity ahead of this week's expected quantitative easing announcement from the Federal Reserve, the results of the mid-term elections and the Labor Department's monthly employment report. The day's tepid economic data, including an in-line reading on third-quarter GDP, also contributed to the choppy trading visible over the course of the session.

The Commerce Department said that gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 2.0 percent in the third quarter following the 1.7 percent growth in the second quarter - in line with expectations. Also, Reuters and the University of Michigan reported that their consumer sentiment index for October was downwardly revised to a reading of 67.7 while economists had expected an upward revision to 68.0.

Finally, the Institute for Supply Management - Chicago said its Chicago business barometer rose 0.2 points to a reading 60.6 in October, with a reading above 50 indicating growth. Economists expected a drop to a reading of 58.0.On the earnings front, tech giant Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) said that its first quarter profit rose 51 percent from last year, driven by solid enterprise growth and continued strong consumer demand for its Windows 7 operating system and Office 2010 software. The company's quarterly earnings came in above analyst expectations as did its quarterly revenue.

Monster Worldwide Inc. (MWW) gained 26 percent as its third quarter revenues topped estimates and the firm boosted its fourth quarter revenue guidance to between $258 million and $272 million. Analysts forecast the company to report sales of $251.8 million.

The major averages ended the session mixed, although all three moved by less than 0.1 percent on the day. While the S&P 500 slipped 0.52 points to 1,183.26, the Dow rose 4.54 points to 11,118.49 and the NASDAQ inched up 0.04 points to 2,507.41. For the week, the NASDAQ rose by 1.1 percent, while the Dow edged down by 0.1 percent and the S&P 500 showed almost no change.
